Who is Alonzo Saclag?
Alonzo Saclag is a renowned Filipino musician, dancer, and cultural advocate from Lubuagan, Kalinga. Born on August 4, 1942, he devoted his life to preserving the rich traditions of his people. Despite having no formal training, he mastered indigenous Kalinga musical instruments and dance. His efforts in cultural preservation led to his recognition as a Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) awardee by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in the early 2000s.

Founded the Kalinga Budong Dance Troupe to teach and pass on traditional Kalinga music and dance.

Advocated for the preservation of Kalinga cultural artifacts and sites, including the transformation of the Kalinga Capitol building into a museum.

Alonzo Saclag was dedicated to ensuring that the younger generation embraced their cultural roots. He taught youth how to play indigenous instruments like the gangsa, tongali, and paldong and perform ritual dances. His dance troupe helped revitalize Kalinga traditions and promote them on a national stage.
Museum & Cultural Site Preservation
Understanding the importance of history, Saclag lobbied for the conversion of the Kalinga Capitol building into a museum, now serving as the Lubuagan branch of the National Museum.
